Social Work Month 2022 – Nicholas Wee of AWWA Family Services

We celebrate the dauntless spirit of our social workers on Social Work Month 2022 which took place on 15 March 2022. We want to thank you, all social workers, for tirelessly giving your best to bring joy, comfort, and peace to the hearts of your clients. Over the next few days, we will be sharing with you the stories of our social workers.

“The moment I comprehended the impact that families have on individuals, I knew, at that moment, I wanted to be a social worker. As a social worker at AWWA Family Services, I work alongside families, giving them counselling support and solving the puzzles of their lives together. Why do we do this? Social workers aim to provide people with functional and emotional support in their time of need to equip them with the required skills to succeed independently in the future.

One common misconception is that social workers are volunteers. On the contrary, social workers are required to undergo rigorous training and obtain academic qualifications to ensure that we are armed with the right knowledge to handle complex cases.

Sometimes, it is challenging to separate personal and professional life, especially after encountering a heart-wrenching episode. Instead of harping on the negative, I align my thoughts and render as much support to my clients. Ultimately, I want my clients to know that everything will be okay.

While it is definitely not easy, it is surely a fruitful and meaningful path to take. We welcome you aboard!”
