Social Work Month 2022 – Farahlina Tan of AWWA Family Services

We celebrate the dauntless spirit of our social workers on Social Work Month 2022 which took place on 15 March 2022. We want to thank you, all social workers, for tirelessly giving your best to bring joy, comfort, and peace to the hearts of your clients. Over the next few days, we will be sharing with you the stories of our social workers.

“Would you believe if I told you that I knew I always wanted to be a social worker even before I was in the helping profession? It’s true! I always wanted to create a positive difference in the lives of others. I guess this is the impetus for my calling. Being a social worker, I journey with my clients, navigating through the troughs and peaks of their lives so that they can get their lives back on track.

The very nature of our work as social workers involves lending a listening ear to our clients. We hear their stories – the good, the bad, and those that send shivers down your spine. I have encountered some who were more expressive, some who were reticent. I mean, I am only human; I do get affected at times. But, I take these experiences in my stride and learn how to establish healthier boundaries between work and my personal life.

No doubt it is tough, but after the dust settles and I reflect on the day’s work, I cannot help but smile and feel a sense of fulfilment” – Farahlina Tan, Social Worker at AWWA Family Services.
