During the recent circuit breaker, due to regulations in place which forbade rectification works, Ibrahim, our Operations Officer at AWWA Family Services self learnt and picked up skills on facilities work. He managed to help our families rectify minor defects in homes such as switches, door knobs, taps, spalling and even setting up washing machine pipes. Let’s hear more from Ibrahim!
“My job is to establish operations for services which focuses on the initial referral stage of clients, their transition process to their new dwelling and ensuring these families have a smooth process to find a place they can call home. My task is also to ensure safe and harmonious communal living among the families and members of the public by building trust within our clients, the community and AWWA.
During this COVID-19 period, our families needed financial, emotional and even caregiving support. For most, families find themselves in a challenging situation where some lost their functions as a sole breadwinner. With the influx of referrals due to the recent circuit breaker, my task has become more arduous. Despite the strenuous effort, I strive to provide essential necessities such as catering daily meals for the families, providing financial support, issuing laptops and preparing some care packs such as masks and sanitizers to ensure safe precautions are implemented within the compound.
This job has ignited my interest to pursue a Diploma in Psychology to better understand the behaviours and perspectives of individuals which could help me in better understanding and assisting my clients. To me, small words of appreciation leave me the deepest impact. My job is definitely more than just a job, but also my passion.
I would also like to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to my marvelous team who has been working really hard to help the families in need. This has motivated me to serve our community with integrity which also encourages me on my journey in social work.”
