AWWA Inclusion Experts Series – 6 March 2021

Our sixth Inclusion Experts Series on Making Inclusive Education Happen: Turning Beliefs into Action was held on 6 March 2021, 10am to 12.30pm. This free online session was fronted by Dr. Ilene Schwartz.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Ilene Schwartz.

Dr. Ilene Schwartz is a professor in the Area of Special Education at the University of Washington (UW) and the Director of the Haring Center for Inclusive Education at UW.  She earned her Ph.D. in child and developmental psychology from the University of Kansas and is a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA-D). Dr. Schwartz has an active research and professional training agenda with primary interests in the area of autism, inclusive education, and the sustainability of educational interventions.  She serves on a number of editorial review boards including the Topics in Early Childhood Special Education and the Journal of Early Intervention.  Dr. Schwartz is the director of Project DATA (Developmentally Appropriate Treatment for Model), a model preschool program for children with autism that has been in operation since 1997; and is currently working on two state-wide training projects to improve the quality of educational services for students in inclusive P-12 schools

Session Objectives:

  • Discuss the beliefs that support inclusive education
  • Provide concrete suggestions to educators, parents, and students about
    strategies that they can implement to make inclusion a reality
