“Time sure flies. Without me knowing it, four years have passed since I decided to be an Early Intervention (EI) teacher. Having been with AWWA for close to two years, and seeing the children in the EI centre improving day by day, I am glad I chose this path.
At AWWA, we are always finding ways to maximise the participation of our clients. From the youngest to the oldest, all are included. I use technology to enhance participation when conducting lessons for the children. One tool that I use is called a motor tile. It is basically a pad that lights up when someone steps on it. I realised that the children were better engaged because of the interactivity it provided. It also helped them to be better focused and encouraged social interaction among their peers. It brings joy when I see them participating actively during lessons; I know that my hard work has paid off.
I also enjoy brainstorming solutions with my colleagues. We often come together and inspire each other through sharing sessions, in hopes of improving our skills and processes to improve the lives of our students.
It is an honour being an EI teacher because we have the opportunity to grow with our students. There is a sense of responsibility, a sense of pride when I am with my students.”
