Surviving Cancer Gave Me A Sense of urgency to Help Those Around Me

“I survived breast cancer two years ago. Admittedly, cancer and illness gave me a sense of strong urgency to help the disadvantaged in society. As a cancer survivor, I always feel that time is running out and I don’t know when cancer will strike me again. I searched for volunteering opportunities online. That was how I chanced upon AWWA where I started my volunteering journey as an art teacher with AWWA Family Services. At this stage of my life, if I can do anything to help, I am going to do it. Volunteering with AWWA brings me an immense amount of immediate gratification seeing the pride and joy on the children’s faces and their completed artwork.

I hope more people join me in giving a shot at volunteering. No contribution is too little. The best gift you can give someone is the gift of your time.”
