“I guess you can say that helping people motivates me to be a better person”, Jia Wei shared. The 22-year-old social work associate from AWWA is part of the interprofessional collaboration team that looks into case management and planning for programmes for our caregivers, among others.
“I have a soft spot for people; I enjoy helping and understanding people. After learning more about social work, I knew this is the path I am going to take”, Jia Wei said. “While studying for my diploma, I interned at AWWA and was drawn to the good works of the organisation. Fast forward to today, I am glad to have joined AWWA”!
When asked about her experience as a social worker, she shared that “it is crucial to find solutions collaboratively with our clients. It is equally important to lend a listening ear to clients”. “Sometimes, clients just want a listening ear; someone present to hear their situation”, Jia Wei added.
“I gained so much from them simply by listening and being present. At the end of the day, I want to be there for our clients, to support and empower them to lead independent and dignified lives” – Pang Jia Wei, Social Work Associate.
