Meet Ashraf (right), a 49-year-old aspiring poet who writes all things about love – and especially his love and affection for his mother. As Ashraf battles cerebral palsy, his mother, Mdm Latheffa – now in her late 60s – plays the role of his guardian angel, supporting him physically, emotionally, and mentally daily. Times when she was unwell, she selflessly placed Ashraf’s needs ahead of hers, neglecting her well-being at times. When asked why she did that, she smiled and said, “He is my son”.
Three years ago, AWWA stepped in to assist Mdm Latheffa with some of the heavy lifting. With the stress on her back now alleviated, she is better able to care for her family, as well as herself. “AWWA helped us a lot, and I am very grateful for them”, Mdm Latheffa commented.
Ashraf’s flair for writing is evident when flipping through pages and pages of handwritten literature. “Writing is all about love, and love is the bridge that allows us to connect and grow. When I write, I think about my mum’s selfless care and love. She is a superwoman because she can do anything”, Ashraf narrated as he flipped through the pages of his writings.
When asked what Ashraf would like to say to his mother on Mother’s Day, he spontaneously responded, “Thank you for taking care of me, and I wish for you to stay fit and strong! I love you”.
